An excellent facsimile reprint of this important pictorial record of the major picturesque gardens of France at the turn of the nineteenth century. Among the 30 properties that are illustrated here are Ermenonville, Méréville, Mortfontaine, Malmaison and Le Raincy, each represented with at least nine different views accompanied by a descriptive text in French, English and German. Laborde also provides an introductory text discussing the history of French gardens and a concluding chapter with observations on the theory of garden design.
