Co., 1892. The Sixth annual issue of this richly illustrated compendium for architectural and related trades at the end of the Victorian period. In addition to being profusely illustrated throughout from wood-engravings, it is enchanced with vibrant color lithographed plates from various printers and with an ink photo plate, as well. The illustrations are grouped into sections advertising the products of artisans in the following areas: 1. bricks, tiles and terra cotta; 2.) carpentry and joinery; 3. cements, limes, slates, asphaltes; engineering and fireproofing construction; finishing, decoration, fittings, furniture; 6. glazing, stained glass, paints; 7. hot water, warming, lighting, ventilating; 8. ironmongery and hardware; 9 metal work; 10. masonry, marble, enamelled slate, sculpture, etc.; 11. sanitary manufacture; 12. wall and ceiling covering; 13. lighting conductors, horticultural buildings, mathematical instruments. These sections are followed by a price book for materials and labour compiled by Charles Searle, a compilation of relevant Acts of Parliament for 1891, a list of architectural societies and information for students, and an address register for architects, builders, manufacturers & merchants from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Numerous other plates are added to the main sections from a variety of printers in varying techniques; clearly each annual issue of the compediium was added to and subtracted from, making the collation of the text byzantine. OCLC locates no issues before the year 1895; COPAC locates at least three, some in runs. 4to (27.5 x 21.2 cm); chromolithographed frontispiece and title page + (9) - 653 (+12) pp including numbered rear endpapers printed in sepia and in black on various papers + 23 color lithographed plates, 1 photo and 4 ink photos plates, and with 53 additional plates, some in color lithography and/or on various papers. Original embossed cloth with gilt embossed title on spine cover, blind-stamped title on upper cover, edges gently shelfworn; text is fresh and bright with scattered light foxing to preliminaries and fore-edges only. Very well-preserved. $650.00
