(Trade Catalogue, Paint) DONALD
MACPHERSON & CO. COLOUR BOOK OF FOOCHOW WATER
PAINT Oil Bound and Washable (cover title).
(London & Manchester: Donald Macpherson & Co.,
n.d. (ca. 1900). An attractive English trade catalogue of 47 color samples for the "Foochow" interior and exterior paint, which could be applied on wood, wallpaper, stone, cement or plaster surfaces. The paint was non-poisonous, it resisted fire and its color shades were intermixable. The clever arrangement of the catalogue demonstrates the mutual compatibillity of most shades: over each color sample measuring 25 x 18 cm a 5cm section is cut so that a printed template of a front door with delineated side wall and partial "second story" can be placed over a solid color sample or a combination of two different samples. The colors are vibrant and , except for the very palest, show no soiling. No copies located at OCLC or COPAC. Staple bound pamphlet, 17.5 x 25 cm; 12 pp. text + (2) blank + 47 divided color cards or samples. Original stiff paper covers printed in red and black, very minor edgewear, a fold at the rear; light colored samples only show faint thumb-soiling. $300.00
