(Bois de Boulogne)VACQUER, Théodore.   LE BOIS DE BOULOGNE ARCHITECTURAL.   Recueil Des Embellissements Exécutés Dans Son Enceinte Et A Ses Abords Sous La Direction De MM. Alphand, Ingénieur En Chef, Et Davioud, Architecte.       Paris: Caudrilier,   1860.
First edition. This impressive volume is devoted to the various architectural embellishments recently erected in the newly transformed Bois de Boulogne just outside of Paris. Alphand was in charge of the project, but the individual park structures and ornaments were the work of the Gabriel Davioud, chief architect for the city of Paris under Haussmann. The distinctive picturesque style adopted by Davioud for the Bois became a model for park structures and embellishments in Paris and elsewhere throughout the remainder of the century. The plates which illustrate the volume show elevations, sections and details of gazebos, kiosks, covered benches, exedres. guard houses, restaurants, pavilions and other buildings together with a colored view of the Grande Cascade and a plan of the park. The architectural color plates were drawn by Vacquer, who also contributes the introductory text describing the architectural features of the park.   Folio (39.8 x 27 cm); 12 + 22 colored lithographic plates + 10 mounted engraved plates.   Ganay 262.
Contemporary quarter leather over pebbled cloth boards; leather scuffed; light foxing in margins of a few leaves.
