(Civic Art - Paris)GREGOIRE,
Joseph-Aimable. LE BOUQUET OU TOUT
S'AMELIORE; Paris: Chez
L'Auteur, 1833. This pamphlet catalogues the sculpture and statuary decorating the Place de La Concorde and the Pont de La Concorde, including descriptions, artists names and other historical details. The author was a royalist expelled from his post at the Bureau des Cultes et Beaux Arts by the Revolution of 1830. Much of the preliminary text offers commentary on planned civic improvements, in particular to the Place de La Concorde, (which he still calls the place Louis XVI) together with a sarcastic and bitter lament for the destruction of various urban embellishments during the violence of the July Revolution. Scarce; OCLC records only one US location (National Gallery of Art). 8vo (19.5 x 13 cm); 36 pp. with two engraved text illustrations of a bouquet. Original printed paper covers, spine paper perished but sewing tight, bottom outer edge of bottom cover rubbed; scattered light foxing. *** Authors signature in ink at end of preface. $150.00
