Paris: 1847. A well-detailed map of ancient or classical Rome by J.A. Léveil, an architect and "ancien pensionnaire" of the French Academy at Rome, co-authored with Ch. Dezobry, author of ROME AU SIECLE D'AUGUSTE. The "plan de Marbre du Musée Capitalin," as well as ancient texts, was the basis for the reconstruction offered here. A key to the plan printed at the side margins lists 325 sites grouped into fourteen regions from the Porte Capène to the Transtibérine. Engraved by A.F. Le Maitre. Folded printed map measuring 58 x 78.2 cm, divided into 21 sections Bound into original leather backed boards, one protective folding flap re-attached, boards scuffed and edgeworn, map a little bit dusty but otherwise very good. $225.00
