Forestier, who was among the most noted French landscape architects of his day, was also in charge of the restoration of the gardens at Bagatelle. This study, first published in 1910, presents a history of the Chateau and its gardens from the 18th century up to their purchase by the city of Paris in 1905. It concludes with a 11 page chapter entitled "Quelques Idées Sur Les Jardins Modernes." This second edition, enlarged by at least 20 pages, includes new illustrations and updated notes on the rose garden and other plantings. 8vo (25.6 x 14.2 cm); 115 pp. with text illustrations + folding plan and 18 half-tone plates from early engravings, paintings and photographs.
