Hinck & Wall - Specialists In Garden History
GEITNER, G(ustav).. WEGWEISER DURCH DIE TREIBEGÄRTNEREI & BAUMSCHULE zu Planitz bei Zwickau in Sachsen. Neusalza: Louis Oeser, n.d. (ca.  1862).
     $450.00
An illustrated guide book to a German nursery founded in 1837.  The unusual feature of the nursery, and the critical factor in its establishment,
was its location above a burning coal seam in southern Saxony.  The heat generated by this underground combustion made the location ideal for use as a
forcing garden. In addition to providing a descriptive tour of the garden, the text also includes chapters devoted to its history and unusual geology.  The
guide is also illustrated with seven colored plates, including two folding plans and two views of the two main sites. Rare; OCLC records no copies, KVK
locates only two copies. 8vo (22.5 x 15.5 cm); (iv) + 3-31 pp. + 7 colored lithographic plates (2 folding).  Original chromolithographed paper wraps,
worn, with 5 cm section of paper perished from spine; damp stain in lower corner of text and plates.
